Energy Vampires, Projection, and the Possibility of Healing
The word brujería often conjures images of spells, hexes, dark rituals, and unseen attacks. In some circles, it’s whispered with fear. In others, it’s claimed with power. But what is brujería really?
And more importantly: can it be healed?
Beyond the Stereotype
In many traditions, brujería simply means witchcraft through a set of spiritual practices that can be used for healing, protection, or harm, depending on the intention. But in lived experience, especially in parts of Latin America and the Amazon, brujería often refers to energetic harm whether intentional or not.
It’s not always about curses. Sometimes, it’s just the draining, manipulative, or obsessive energy of another person, directed toward you with intensity, jealousy, fixation, or unresolved wounding.
Which leads us to a deeper question:
Is Brujería Just Another Word for Energy Vampirism?
In some ways, yes. Brujería often functions like a spiritual parasite or energetic invasion. Not always visible. Not always conscious. But felt. DEEPLY. In the body.
- Sudden exhaustion or confusion when someone enters your field
- Repeating thoughts or obsessions that don’t feel like your own
- Illness, disconnection, or misfortune that appears after contact with certain people
Brujería doesn’t always come from malevolence. Sometimes it comes from wounding. From people who don’t know how to create connection without attaching, controlling, or drawing energy from others.
Which means it’s not just about defending.
It’s about understanding.
Does Brujería Come From Fear?
Often, yes. Many forms of brujería arise from:
- Fear of abandonment or betrayal
- Fear of another’s power or beauty
- Fear of scarcity or spiritual disconnection
It may be a twisted attempt at protection, influence, or love. It may come from people who don’t feel they have a right to ask leading them to take energetically, instead.
The wound at the root of brujería is often unmet need + unprocessed fear.
Can It Be Healed?
Yes, but not always through confrontation.
Brujería is best healed through:
- Energetic hygiene and sovereignty (learning how to seal, clear, and protect your field)
- Compassionate boundaries (recognizing when someone’s energy is not yours to carry)
- Deep internal healing (asking: where did this enter, and why did it stick?)
- Calling your power back (from people, timelines, or entanglements)
Sometimes brujería clears when you stop fearing it.
Sometimes it clears when you stop playing small.
Sometimes, it dissolves when the part of you that still feels responsible for others finally lets go.
An Invitation to Discernment
Not everything is brujería.
But not everything is benign, either.
You don’t have to become paranoid to be discerning.
And you don’t have to stay open to stay kind.
If something feels off in your field, listen.
Cleanse. Reflect. Set boundaries. Call your energy back.
And always ask: what is this teaching me about my own power?
If you feel energetically entangled, drained, or impacted by something you can’t quite name—let’s look at it together. Healing begins with clarity.
